About JLB Pilates

Your Why Is Our Mission

"You are only as young as your spine is flexible."

At JLB Pilates, we believe healing happens through movement. Using the Pilates Method, we work with your body as it is to help you grow stronger, healthier, and more resilient and flexible. Every body is different, and everybody can improve their health through movement.

We create a highly personalized Pilates program for every one of our clients. In your first session with us, we’ll complete a movement screening, discuss your current health and wellness goals, and talk about how Pilates will be able to help you heal through movement. Your why becomes our mission, and we’ll use a combination of private sessions and group classes to support your health journey with Pilates.

The JLB Pilates Story

JLB Pilates founder Jen Bergren first fell in love with Pilates when she saw Mari Windsor on TV more than 25 years ago. She earned her personal training certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine and started working at a popular gym chain in the Twin Cities. Jen worked there as a personal trainer. While working there she began taking Pilates classes. It was at this time that she decided to go through the training and become a Pilates instructor herself. She was a Pilates instructor there for several years.

As an instructor, Jen saw firsthand how Pilates changed lives. She even experienced this transformation herself, witnessing how her Pilates practice improved her range of motion and recovery from injuries.

After a number of years working for the chain, Jen decided to open her own Pilates studio in Maple Grove. She wanted to serve people facing all different types of physical and health challenges and help them use Pilates to heal through movement. Today, JLB Pilates operates a 1,300 square-foot practice that features two studios for group classes as well as a separate studio for private sessions.

Leah Kovar

INSTRUCTOR

Leah Kovar developed a passion for Pilates after a back injury that led her to a rehabilitation program with one-on-one instruction in the Pilates method.  After several treatment opinions on the low lumbar herniation and bulging disc, she was discouraged by the suggestion for surgery.  Determined to find an alternative, she was introduced to Jen Bergren at JLB Pilates. After working the Pilates method for 6 months, the low back pain was GONE!

Experiencing this full body change through Pilates was incredible.  She has now committed to making Pilates a big part of the rest of her life.  This new found passion naturally led her to want to help others find healing and wellness in their own bodies. Now teaching and practicing Pilates has helped her realize her dream of helping others and deepening her own practice.

Ceili Sorenson

INSTRUCTOR

My Pilates story began over 15 years ago. While working full time as a buyer at a wholesale marine company I developed excruciating neck and upper back pain. Determined to find a holistic way to feel better and improve my posture I took my first Pilates mat class. After that I was hooked. I became an avid participant in mat and apparatus classes and my instructor suggested I become a certified Pilates teacher. I was not happy with my role at work, so I thought, “why not?” I became certified through Peak Pilates and after teaching part time for 6 months, I had enough business that I could leave my job as a buyer and become a full time Pilates teacher and fitness professional. Since 2010, I have been teaching Pilates, coaching individuals on nutrition and doing personal training. Teaching Pilates has always been my number one passion and through numerous certifications and workshops I strive to continue my education to be a better teacher for my clients each and every year. We are all a work in progress!

  • Pilates Method Alliance (PMA)
  • National Pilates Certification Program (NPCP)
  • National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM)
  • Precision Nutrition (PN)
  • Pre and Postnatal

As a mom of four children I understand firsthand the importance of maintaining one’s sanity through outlets such as exercise, church, hobbies and most importantly community. Pilates creates community and brings people together in a way that no other form of exercise can. The physical, spiritual and emotional well being created with consistent Pilates practice is second to none. I am so blessed to have found this.

Jen Rudie

INSTRUCTOR

Jen Rudie studied Pilates under a private instructor for ten years to rehabilitate injuries sustained from rowing, running, and triathlon. Pilates provided strength and stabilization for her back, something Jen was not able to achieve through physical therapy.

Jen recently became certified as a mountain bike instructor. She found the demands of repetitious movements were once again causing issues with her back.  She learned from her good friend about JLB Pilates and the opportunity to become certified as an instructor. Jen jumped right in! She knew Pilates was the key to continuing the activities she loves for the long-term. She is excited to help others learn the benefits of Pilates practice.

As someone who’s suffered from significant chronic pain and injury, Jen can bring an understanding of both the physical and mental challenges others in similar situations face. As an athlete and highly active outdoors person, she is very interested in exploring the impact Pilates brings to performance and longevity in sports.

Jen has been very active as an athlete through the years, having completed multiple triathlons, century bicycle rides and multi-day cycling tours. She is a BICP Level 1 mountain bike instructor and entering her second season coaching with the Loppet Cycle Works and other organizations.

Her outdoor pursuits aren’t limited to cycling. She loves doing anything outdoors: paddleboarding, Nordic skiing, hiking, camping, and traveling. It has been a joy to participate in many of these activities with her husband and grown children. Movement is medicine, and Jen’s goal is to enable others to become strong and sustain a lifetime of movement with the activities that bring them joy!

She began her Pilates journey over 10 years ago at a local gym, where she took classes regularly and loved the results she received. Amy took a little break from Pilates for a few years. She decided to reach out to Jen Bergren, the instructor she had learned from years ago. Once again, Amy was back into her regular Pilates practice. This time, there was no stopping her. She was hooked! Amy has always loved to focus on her own health and wellness. She made the decision to pursue her dream of helping others and introducing them to the world of Pilates. She holds the following certifications as she continues her

Amy is excited to begin teaching and helping others. Most importantly, she is looking forward to helping others pursue their Pilates journey.
